ABA/Leica Tropicbirds Progress

The World Series of Birding Report

On a challenging day with limited migration and stiff northerly winds to start things off at midnight, this year's Tropicbird's team was able to tally a whopping 178 species of birds within the confines of Cape May County. Highlights were many, but the White-faced Ibis and Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow were favorites. Their total officially ranked the Tropicbirds third in Youth Division C (9th-12th graders), bested only by two teams that scoured the entire state. The Tropicbirds also had the third highest total of all Cape May County teams, a remarkable feat in such a competitive event, with the other high-scoring county teams made up of adults (some of them former Tropicbirds!). The kids should be proud of their accomplishment.
